Computational experience using an edge search algorithm for linear reverse convex programs

چکیده
This paper presents computational experience with a rather straight forward implementation of an edge search algorithm for obtaining the globally optimal solution for linear programs with an additional reverse convex constraint. The paper’s purpose is to provide a collection of problems, with known optimal solutions, and performance information for an edge search implementation so that researchers may have some benchmarks with which to compare new methods for reverse convex programs or concave minimization problems. There appears to be nothing in the literature that provides computational experience with a basic edge search procedure. The edge search implementation uses a depth first strategy. As such, this paper’s implementation of the edge search algorithm is a modification of Hillestad’s algorithm [ 111. A variety of test problems is generated by using a modification of the method of Sung and Rosen [20], as well as a new method that is presented in this paper. Test problems presented may be obtained at ftp://newton.ee.ucla.edu/nonconvex/pub/.

Computational Experience with the Reverse Search Vertex Enumeration Algorithm
This paper describes computational experience obtained in the development of the lrs code, which uses the reverse search technique to solve the vertex enumeration/convex hull problem for d-dimensional convex polyhedra. We giv e empirical results showing improvements obtained by the use of lexicographic perturbation, lifting, and integer pivoting. We also give some indication of the cost of usin...
متن کاملLinear Programming with Entropic Perturbation1
In this paper, we derive an unconstrained convex programming approach to solving standard form linear programs through an entropic perturbation. The whole duality theory is established by using only one simple inequality "In z S; z 1 for z > 0". A curved search algorithm is also proposed for obtaining a pair of primal and dual G-optimal solutions. The proposed algorithm is proven to be globally...
متن کاملA convergent algorithm for solving linear programs with an additional reverse convex constraint
An inequality g{x) 2i 0 is often said to be a reverse convex constraint if the function g is continuous and convex. The feasible regions for linear program with an additional reverse convex constraint are generally non-convex and disconnected. In this paper a convergent algorithm for solving such a linear problem is proposed. The method is based upon a combination of the branch and bound proced...
متن کاملlrs: A Revised Implementation of the Reverse Search Vertex Enumeration Algorithm
This paper describes an improved implementation of the reverse search vertex enumeration/convex hull algorithm for d-dimensional convex polyhedra. The implementation uses a lexicographic ratio test to resolve degeneracy, works on bounded or unbounded polyhedra and uses exact arithmetic with all integer pivoting. It can also be used to compute the volume of the convex hull of a set of points. Fo...
متن کاملSweep Line Algorithm for Convex Hull Revisited
Convex hull of some given points is the intersection of all convex sets containing them. It is used as primary structure in many other problems in computational geometry and other areas like image processing, model identification, geographical data systems, and triangular computation of a set of points and so on. Computing the convex hull of a set of point is one of the most fundamental and imp...
